Hey folks,
Something I get reminded of almost daily is how much I procrastinate. This usually comes to light when I am prepping for the next day as I am forced to think about what I still need to do because I didn’t do it today :(
I will do it tomorrow, is usually my go-to excuse. Or If I don’t say that, I will say ‘I will do it sometime xx.
If you are like me, procrastination can have an unintended consequence that affects you and the rest of your week should you carry on that trajectory.
By putting off work today, you are creating work for yourself in the future.
Consider this when tomorrow comes; the present you is going to hate you because there is another thing to do, the perceived future you (or the fear of the future you) will spiral with feelings of being inadequate, burnt out, mental fatigue and ….well you know the rest and the past you will get away with murder.
We are not robots, so yes, there is a lee-way from time to time, but try not to abuse it because procrastination can become a habit (more on this below). If you have to push it out, tackle it as soon as possible because the cognitive repercussions can be dire. Make your tasks smaller, do something, just start.
Because this is a widely written topic, I thought I’d share some thoughts on procrastination from some authors I like.
These are typically good reminders for me when I procrastinate.
